The Red Collection is an exquisite range of distinguished and rare single malt scotch whiskies which capture The Macallan’s deep respect for tradition and craftsmanship. The distinctive red colour is inspired by The Macallan ‘Choice Old’ range, released over a century ago in 1903, and brought to life by beautiful illustrations by acclaimed Spanish painter and illustrator Javi Aznarez.
The Macallan 60 Year Old is matured in a combination of sherry seasoned and refill casks and bottled at 43.4% abv.
The nose has a combination of sweet and fruit notes, alongside baked peach and pineapple with figs and dates. Hints of leather merge creating a luxuriously resinous aroma. Dry antique oak notes and hints of ginger develop into tropical papaya and mango on the palate. The finish is complex with lime, liquorice and dark chocolate.

It is a celebration of the diverse reds found naturally in The Macallan—at every stage of the production process. Starting with the name of their founder Alexander Reid—literally “The Red,” to The Macallan’s ‘Choice Old’ range released over a century ago in 1903, to Allan Shiach marking vintage bottles of Macallan malt scotch whisky with a red ribbon in the 1980s, the distinctive red color weaves its way through their history.

Overall, this whisky (in general all Macallan) has a bad value for the money. Nevertheless, it is not a bad whisky in fact the distillate is tasty and the flavors of the Oloroso cask (probably comes from Bodega Valdespino) is expressive, but the softness of the whisky hides all the potential that could have. It would be better to 46%.
